My novel [untitled]

Synopsis:

Teiran Connel is made of everything she’s told she can’t be. She was an orphan, too poor to account to anything, too dirty to be anything but a half-blood. She’ll throw a punch without noticing the size and strength of her opponent, she’ll scrape her knees and rip her dress, and do everything without thinking it through.
Yet she holds her secrets close like a second skin. “Safety or adventure?” they asked her. “Adventure,” she responded without hesitation.
And her journey had only just begun.

Dylan Reed almost has everything he’s ever worked for. He’s nearly military, just brushing the tip of valour. He’s strapped a sword to his hip, admired the sheen of gleaming armour. He’s fought hard and worked harder and finally everything is fitting in place.
Yet he’s being dragged down, his vow being used against him. “Your goal or your honour?” they asked him. “Honour,” he responded, with only a second’s hesitation. And his life had only just begun.

Taj Nyl is frightened, unsure, and confused. He’s fought battles, but now doubts whether or not they were for a right cause. He hates the injustice that he sees, but is waiting for someone else to stand against it. He’s not a warrior with nerves of steel. He is anything but a born soldier—he’s frightened, unsure, and desperately wants to be worthy.
Yet he’s just discovering what kind of ally he can be. “Tolerance or resistance?” they asked him. “Resistance,” he responds, after considering the risk.
And his fight had only just begun.

There’s corruption in this world—no one know’s this better than Taj Nyl. But there’s also fear.
People need a leader—Teiran Connel can see this all around her. But there’s also her own need for survival.
There’s a possibility to be part of something greater—Dylan Reed knows this. But there’s also his guilt dragging him back.
When these three unlikely heroes form an alliance against everything they’ve ever known, they’re aware of the risks. They also have a plan to avoid them. But danger is still inevitable, and a surprising twist takes their rebellion somewhere they never expected.

Characters:

Teiran | Main Character

Who is she? Teiran—my twenty-year-old main character, the orphaned Gatekeeper of Helmsdale village.

MBTI Personality Type: INFJ - Advocate

Key traits: Determined, reliable, quiet, insightful, keeps to herself, bitter, stubborn, believed in helping only herself, survivor, tough

Character Contradiction: Soft-spoken, yet strong-willed

The other villagers constantly bullied her for her bloodline and status. Being raised without parents, she’s been told that her father was a barkeeper and her mother was one of his barmaids. She keeps to herself and her work, manning the Gates to the village, but always imagines herself one day leaving Helmsdale and being someone extraordinary.

Dylan | Supporting Character

Who is he? Dylan—my twenty-two-year-old secondary character, one of the Queen’s guards who is secretly working for the rebellion.

Background: When Dylan was twelve, his father brought him to a group of rebels living in Dagwood forest. Their leader, Elden Keif, offered him a bargain: he would find Dylan work in the palace, and in return Dylan had to make an oath. He spent ten years working as a soldier and was offered several promotions until he held one of the highest positions in the palace. He is confident that he will advance to the personal guard of Lady Kritana. But after those ten years, Elden calls upon his promise and he is swept away from very nearly becoming the country’s hero to keeping his honour and his oath.

Taj | Supporting Character

Who is he? Taj—my seventeen-year-old secondary character, one of the Queen’s soldiers who defects and turns rogue.

MBTI Personality Type: INFP—the Dreamer

Key traits: frightened, hates injustice but can’t stand up against it, pickpocket, tense, gets into trouble often, disorganized, dedicated,

Character Contradiction: Believes that he can’t do anything, that he is not worthy, but comes to realize how useful he really is.

Background: Taj was taken from his home country of Saerh by force and made to work for the Queen when he was ten years old. While in training, he met another recruit named Dylan who protected him and treated him as a brother. Now, seven years later and on his own, Taj has learned to fade in the background so he won’t be noticed. He’s not a warrior with nerves of steel. He is anything but a born soldier—he’s frightened, unsure, and a nobody who desperately wants to be worthy. So, after an attack on a helpless village, Taj make an important decision that will affect not only him, but all of the country.
